SUMMARY:6th FunDive Webinar: Beyond the Microscope - Laboulbeniomycetes
DESCRIPTION:The FunDive consortium presents its recurrent webinar series on mycological topics.\nThis sixth webinar will be given by Danny Haelewaters who introduces us to the world and study of Laboulbeniomycetes. \nThe webinar will last about one hour\, including time for questions. \nPlease note that webinars are recorded and will be shared afterwards via the FunDive website. Please sign up [registration link] so we can keep track of the number of participants and adjust accordingly. You will receive an email with the join link. The webinar is hosted on Microsoft Teams. \nSchedule \n19:55 Opening and short introduction  (Dr. Marta Tischer and Glen Dierickx)\n20:00 Danny Haelewaters —  Beyond the Microscope: Phylogenetics and Phylogenomics Transforming\nthe Study of Laboulbeniomycetes?\n21:40 Discussion and questions\n21:00 End \nIf you cannot find the meeting link or have lost your invitation email\, the direct link will be posted here shortly before the start. \nExtended topic description \nDanny Haelewaters ( Laboratory of Fungal Ecology and Evolution\,  Institute of Entomology\, Czechia and Research Group Mycology at Ghent University\, Belgium). \nThe talk will focus on Laboulbeniales microfungi. Traditionally\, their study depended solely on morphological characteristics. Our group is using phylogenetics and phylogenomics to resolve outstanding issues such as species delimitation\, classification within the order Laboulbeniales\, and placement of the class among Ascomycota. For example\, the discovery of cryptic diversity and within-species phenotypic plasticity makes the use of molecular data necessary in species delimitation. Multi-locus phylogenetic data are showing that the fly-associated genus Stigmatomyces in its traditional sense is paraphyletic and falls apart in multiple clades. And finally\, phylogenomic data reveal that Laboulbeniomycetes and Sordariomycetes are not sister classes\, as previously shown (based on both ribosomal-only and six-locus phylogenetic data).

SUMMARY:MycoRise Up! Youth in Mycology 2026
DESCRIPTION:Dear Young Researchers and Mycology Enthusiasts\,\nwe are pleased to invite you to the 7th edition of MycoRise Up! Youth in Mycology conference\, which will take place from 5th to 7th of June\, 2026. The conference will be held in European Centre of Geological Education of University of Warsaw in Chęciny\, Poland. The scope of the conference covers every topic connected with fungi and fungi-like organisms. The event is being organised by Biology of Microorganisms \nStudents’ Society of Faculty of Biology\, University of Warsaw and Polish Mycological Society. \nThis conference is meant to create a safe environment for young scientists (undergraduates\, master’s students and PhD candidates) to practice their presentation skills\, discuss their research and network with other fungi researchers. Consequently we welcome both original research as well as literature review in the form of oral or poster presentations. We encourage all attendees to actively participate in the\nconference. \nAll abstracts\, presentations and posters must be in English\, which will ensure the inclusivity of the conference. The abstracts will be assessed by the scientific committee of the conference. The committee will propose improvements if necessary and will be in charge of accepting the abstracts. The organising committee aims not to charge active participants a conference fee. The final information considering the possible charges will be announced later in the following communicates. However the possible fee will not exceed 70 PLN. \nSave the date and follow our social media\, where we will also publish more information about the conference! SUMMARY:One Health Mycology: The Westerdijk Spring Symposium 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute has announced the Westerdijk Spring Symposium 2026\, taking place April 13 to 14\, 2026. This year’s event centres on the interdisciplinary theme “One Health Mycology” and will explore the interconnectedness of fungal life across human\, animal\, and environmental domains. \nHosted at the Institute’s facilities in the Netherlands\, the symposium will gather leading scientists to present recent advances across four themes: \n\nHuman and Animal Health\nFungi Beyond Disease: plant pathogens\, microbiomes\, mycotoxins\, and indoor fungi\nEnvironmental Mycology: reservoirs\, dispersal\, and drivers of emergence\nAntifungal Resistance and Novel Antifungals\n\nA significant highlight of the event will be the celebration of Prof. Rob Samson’s 80th Birthday\, which will be honoured through a special session featuring talks on Aspergillus taxonomy\, and a retrospective look at his contributions to the field. The symposium will also host the Westerdijk Awards\, which recognises excellence in mycological research. \nThe event aims to foster international collaboration and provide a platform for researchers and industry professionals to tackle global health challenges through the lens of mycology. \nFor further information on the symposium and to secure your place\, see the following link.

SUMMARY:Webinar on Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) organized by MoSTFun\, a BiodivMon project
DESCRIPTION:Several BiodivMon projects aim at contributing to the development of Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs). The MoSTFun\, a BiodivMon project which develops the first steps for routine monitoring of aquatic fungi biodiversity and GEO BON\, on biodiversity conservation and monitoring\, is organizing series of seminars on EBVs. This series brings together experts to share knowledge and discuss innovative approaches to biodiversity monitoring and will explore key programs and techniques that help us understand biodiversity trends across space and time. The first webinars will shed light on EBVs and their development/application in case studies and will be held by GEO BON leaders.
